In the project entitled Study on Rational Water Resources Allocation and Carrying Capacity in Northwestern Regions, Dr. WANG Hao proposed a dualistic dynamics model of water resources for inland rivers, and a hierarchical system for water resources evaluation. By systematically evaluating surface water and ground water resources in China’s northwestern regions, the interactive mechanism of water-ecology in arid region was preliminarily revealed, and calculation methods for arid regional eco-water and for water resources carrying capacity were developed. He offered overarching strategic recommendations for rational allocation and sustainable use of water resources in northwestern ecological fragile regions. This has not only provided first-hand material for strategy formulation of the 21 century sustainable development in this region, but also strong technological support to shift traditional water resources management to modern water resources management, and resource-oriented water strategy for northwestern ecological and economic development.
